Awhile back, I posted a WIP of a painting I was doing for a class assignment. Today, whilst I was cleaning up some of my archives, I ran across that same project, and decided to post some of the completed pieces from that project.

The original assignment was to create CD art and promotional material for a (fictional) new CD, from a band/artist of our choosing. I ended up going with Pretty Lights, and opted to give the promo package and CD art a slight 1940s-50s sci-fi vibe.

This isn’t everything I produced -there’s some PDFs that need tracking down, and the paintings I did for the liner notes and exterior CD cover need clean-up- but these are definitely the bits I’m most satisfied with.

Just posting this here because, barring an art trade I’m working on, I’m probably not gonna be posting much until later this month/early next month.

Some real quick, colored doodles I did when taking a break from homework. The gal on the left is Sulla from O Human Star, and the (curiously shirtless) fellow on the right is Oswald Dytel from Knights Errant.

Someday I will do large, complicated illustrations for both webcomics, but at the moment I have Identity Design stuff and client work to get back to. *slinks away*

Whoops, doing more Noise concepts. Someday I will draw the actual human characters in the game, but not today~!

First one is a based off a Utahraptor. The first draft had a bunch of tail feathers, but it just looked entirely too busy to work, so I scrapped ‘em. (Also they were a pain in the ass to vector properly.) Doesn’t really have a name -I can’t decide between Chiptune Raptor or Glitch Raptor.

Second is a Quetzalcoatlus, and the pose is loosely based off of a restoration by Raul Martin. Kinda-sorta took the color scheme from a pre-existing Noise. Again, I don’t really have a cool name for it; I’ve just been calling it Quetzal Canor.

Got some news on my dash that this Saturday is designated “Draw All the TWEWY Fanart™” Day, and while I’m not so great at drawing the main cast (except for Neku and Joshua, apparently), I’m pretty decent at drawing Noise. I’m just posting this a day early because… well, why not.

The first is a concept for my own Noise -can’t decide if it’d be a Boss Noise (which would be called Ceratops Canor), or a regular Noise that happens to be unreasonably tough (which would be called Trip-hop Ceratops or something equally ridiculous). I have a couple of concepts in a similar vein sketched out, but I’m still not sure if I should flesh ‘em out or not.

The second is a Pig Noise with a Dark Matter pin. Because Pig Noise are cute.

Might post some more TWEWY stuff tomorrow, might not. I thought I should post these here anyway, regardless.

Fifth entry in the 30 Day Monster Girl Challenge -a mermaid, who has somehow acquired a waterproof set of headphones and a waterproof MP3 player. Because why not.

I think this is the first time I’ve drawn any two entries within a day of each other? It’s the first time in awhile, anyway. I might even be able to knock out another this weekend. Stranger things have happened.

Fourth entry in the 30 Day Monster Girl challenge -a naga, who has just stumbled across a frustrating plot point in whatever book she’s reading. She hasn’t got clothes on because I didn’t particularly feel like giving her any; I had enough trouble with the pose without clothes.

I should probably try and get these done more frequently, but in the end schoolwork is more important than monster girls. Gonna try to get at least one more girl done before the summer semester starts up, though.

Finals are almost over, wooooooooo. And therefore I am celebrating not having to paint anymore fluffy bears by drawing what I draw best: paleontologically inaccurate dinosaurs.

I feel like this fellow could be the base for something bigger, but I’m still fiddling with ideas. Figured I’d post him here in the meantime. (He’s got a transparent BG, by the by.)

…So. For my current project in Production, I have to do 16-page booklet promoting a company/product/whatever. I happened to get saddled with doing a booklet for Build A Bear workshop, so for the bulk of today (and tomorrow) I’ve been doing illustrations for it.

The project is due on Thursday. My hand and elbow hurt like a motherfucker, and I’m going to be so pissed if I hurt my arm because of a bunch of overpriced teddy bears.

Still. Some have turned out not half-bad, and I’ve ended up rather liking this one. Besides, I don’t show you guys my classwork nearly enough.

Hey, all. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve learned that I’m going to have some extra expenses to take care of come mid-June. As such, I’d like to open illustration and tattoo design commissions once again (preferably of the pay-what-you-want variety), but before I do I’d like to gauge potential interest. So, how many of you would be willing to pay 3-$5 for tattoo flash and illustrations?

avoiding homework sketches, part 2 of infinity

First is a rough colored sketch of a Parasaurolophus walkeri’s ghost. Been messing with the idea of dinosaur ghosts on and off, but this is the only one that’s turned out okay so far.

Second and third are sketches of some aliens from a story that I occasionally return to. The spider-y one has been around in some form or another for almost a year, now, while the fellow with the odd face only just showed himself a day or two ago.

Ahem. Right, so! There’s this term called butt rock, which refers to a type boring, grotty-sounding modern rock with bad lyrics and bad music. Probably the most prominent butt rock group is Nickelback (although I’ve heard everything from Creed to Trapt be called this, so), and really that’s a pretty succinct definition in of itself.

The term kind of tickles me, honestly, and while I was riding out a migraine earlier today I found myself sketching the pencils for… this. And I guess migraines make me kind of delirious, because the next thing I new I’d colored this and slapped some type on it and oh god what am I doing with my life

I swear, there will be a day when I don’t post ridiculous crap, but today is apparently not that day.

Earlier yesterday, I created a design for a contest that Neenah Paper is having. There were some… complications upon uploading, so while I was waiting for a reply back from the company I decided to fiddle with the design a bit. And somewhere along the line I ended up with the logo for a prehistoric radio station?

Sometimes I really don’t get how my brain works…

A small handful of sketches I’ve done over the past week -the semi-legible ones, anyway.

The first one, despite its protests, is an EVA. Or an attempt at one based on vague memories, anyway. A bunch of EVA-flavored things have been popping up in my sketches, which is a bit odd, considering I’ve never watched NGE…

The second is a stag. Used a white-tail for a ref, but I think he ended up being a bit too shaggy to actually be one.

Third is just… some weird bug-alien. I’ve been trying to play with arthropods more when making critters, instead of just sticking with mammals or reptiles.

God, it’s gonna feel good to actually finish something once this semester’s over.

I tend to draw the opposite of whatever my current class assignment is. Right now, I’m working on a mock ad campaign for Build-A-Bear Workshop, so for the past few days I’ve been doodling a mutant wolf-thing with an exposed skull and multiple eyes.

Because the direct opposite of cute, fluffy teddy bears are nightmare wolves, I guess.

Third entry in the 30 Day Monster Girl Challenge ~~finally~~ - a slime lady, who probably needs to put on some boots and clean up the bits of…herself that’s she’s trailing.

A bunch of real life stuff -including a midterm project- and a dearth of ideas kept this one from getting completed sooner. But now that school stuff’s finally been squared away, I was able to sit down and get this done.

I would say that hopefully I’ll get the next one done soon, but the last time I said that almost two months passed between entries, so… I won’t.

Second piece for Stand Up, Fireside. The song that this one is based off of is called “Dehydration Blues,” which Al put up a few days ago.

Probably a mistake to do a (mostly) lineless piece, in retrospective, but I prefer to have solid pencils to ink with, which I didn’t this time. And I’d just gotten done with all the painting I needed to do for class, so I wanted to unwind a bit. By painting more. :/

(Al, if there’s anything about this you want me to edit/fix/whatever, just let me know.)

Art for Al’s upcoming album, Stand Up, Fireside. Not too long ago he put out a call for artwork based song titles on the record, and a couple of the titles immediately caught my attention -including the one that inspired this, “Finch.” Not sure why the first thing that popped into my head was a bird holding a cigarette, but my brain’s come up with stranger things.

Currently working on a second entry in-between homework, so expect to see some more soon.

As I haven’t really posted anything here in awhile (I’m sorry), I decided I’d post some school stuff I’m working on to make up for it.

This is the (in-progress) album art for my Production 2 project -album+ CD art, plus various merch. Need to fiddle with some things for this piece, but it’s getting there…
